My talented father, Wikus Louw, sparked my inspiration to become a photographer. At the curious age of ten I began to accompany him to weddings, and just by merely carrying his camera bag, I would observe and learn. The work was challenging back then, as we used a medium format camera called a Hasselblad. It took long hours to capture the right image, however once I captured stunning photos of various decorations, I realised exactly what I was capable of. It gripped my interest and I quickly began to love and learn more about photography.
The older cameras got more expensive as time passed by, so in 2004 we made the switch to digital cameras and the same year marked my journey into a solo career, breaking away from my father’s wing. I was still a high school student at the time, with a lot to learn, but I was commissioned as the main photographer at various weddings, which gave me the valuable experience I carry with me today.
I do photography full time for which I am so grateful. It is my passion and I live to capture beautiful images, so whenever I do not have my camera with me, I am left feeling empty. The art of capturing a moment into an irreplaceable image that lasts forever, inspires my love for photography!
